That is the reason why the the POP code for Apple II is not licensed under a Free Software license, or at least under an Open Source license. Only one company has the right for distribution. Big difference! You do not have the right to distribute modified versions. The POP code for Apple II is Open Source and on Github now, you can see it and learn from it.

The original Prince of Persia source code recently “just turned up” after being lost for 22 years. Before Prince of Persia was a best-selling video game franchise and a Jerry Bruckheimer movie, it was an Apple II computer game created and programmed by one person, Jordan Mechner.
